What’s HERO?

Homeownership Education Resource Organization (HERO) of South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA) has a team of highly qualified homebuyer education partners and housing counseling agencies ready to help you fly through the process.

There are many ways to learn more about the first-time homebuying process – but there are some free options right here in South Dakota that will send you in the right direction.

How does it work?

HERO partners offer weeknight or weekend workshops, one-on-one sessions and online classes to meet when it is most convenient for you.

Topics cover everything from money management to home maintenance. If you are already a homeowner, these agencies can help you with the little and big—Life Happens and Homeownership Successes along the way.

Why HERO?

According to HUD, studies have shown that pre-purchase counseling reduces the likelihood of delinquency by a third and 70 percent of at-risk homeowners who received housing counseling got the help they needed to keep their homes.

It’s not just for families looking to buy homes or those facing foreclosure—renters and seniors also have resources available to them.
