Modern Homesteading: The SDHDA Governor’s House Program

Modern Homesteading- The SDHDA Governor’s House Program

Homesteading was a unique opportunity that drove thousands of people to South Dakota from the 1860s to the 1920s. The promise of land was the driving force—the Homestead Act of 1862 guaranteed 160 acres of land to anyone willing to follow its guidelines. Today, you could argue that the Governor’s House Program is the modern equivalent of homesteading. The Governor’s House Program promises all the opportunity for ambitious people looking to own property.

Here are some reasons that the Governor’s House Program may be a good fit for you!

Why the Governor’s Program?

Put Down Roots

Just like many of those bygone homesteaders learned the way of the land and stuck it out, you too can put down your roots in South Dakota and build providence for your future descendants.

Gain Independence

For the same reason that homesteaders sought independence, you can achieve independent living by becoming a homeowner. This program is a great way to start your homeowning journey.

Strike a Great Deal

The affordability that the Governor’s Program offers can be lifechanging. To have the opportunity to own your own property is a great way to set yourself up for success.

Personalize

Homesteaders had a blank canvas to make their dreams a reality. The Governor’s House Program has plenty of choices to fit your style. Multiple-bedroom options and home layout varieties give you the opportunity to find a place that’s perfect for your lifestyle.

Luckily, the qualifications for the Governor’s House Program are a lot easier than what the homesteaders had to endure. To qualify for the Governor’s House, purchasers must:
