South Dakota Housing Development Authority Welcomes New Board Member

Gov. Kristi Noem has appointed Preston Steele to the South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA) Board of Commissioners. 

Steele serves as the chief executive officer of American Trust Insurance in Huron. He has a bachelor’s degree in business management with a finance emphasis from the University of South Dakota.

“We are excited to have Preston joining us,” said Mark Lauseng, Executive Director. “His experience and background in banking and development will be a valuable addition to the Board of Commissioners.”

Steele grew up on his family farm near Huron. He and his wife, Rebecca, have three sons.

“It’s an honor to be appointed by the Governor to serve our great state. The SDHDA plays an important role in the growth of South Dakota and I am excited to bring my experience to the table,” said Steele. “I look forward to joining a team that continues to do great work for South Dakota.”

Steele has served for several organizations within his community including: the Greater Huron Development Corporation, the Huron Regional Medical Center Foundation and the Independent Community Bankers of South Dakota.

He currently serves as the chair of American Bank and Trust, chairman for the Huron Airport Authority and a state level board member for Jr. Achievement.

Steele joins current commissioners Scott Erickson of Sioux Falls, Bill Hansen of Centerville, Rick Hohn of Watertown, Steve Kolbeck of Brandon, Mark Puetz of Mitchell and Chairman David Pummel of Belle Fourche.

SDHDA’s commissioners are appointed by the Governor and serve to establish policy for the organization and oversee its operations.
