PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Housing’s Board of Commissioners recently awarded more than $5.7 million to assist South Dakotans who are homeless, at-risk of homelessness or fleeing domestic violence or human trafficking, by financing the development of non-congregate shelters and providing financial assistance for support services.

South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA) is inviting developers to submit applications for funding for the development of affordable housing. Funding can be utilized to assist communities in addressing their local housing needs.

Section 2 of House Bill 1033 appropriated federal fund expenditure authority of $50 million from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA), for the purpose of providing grants for the construction of housing infrastructure.

South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA) and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) currently receive funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support the development of viable communities by providing decent housing, suitable living environments and expanded economic opportunities to low- and moderate-income persons.
