SD COORDINATED ENTRY SYSTEM HOUSING ASSESSMENT SPECIALIST 

DESCRIPTION: The Housing Assessment Specialist is responsible for the assessment of households experiencing or at risk of homelessness to determine appropriate housing solutions through the Coordinated Entry System (CES). The Coordinated Entry System assesses, prioritizes and refers households experiencing or at risk of homelessness to housing resources in their local communities. The Housing Assessment Specialist will spend the majority of their time on the phone assessing households using an assessment workflow through the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).

QUALIFICATIONS: Must have ability to communicate professionally and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Must be able to outline, organize, and establish priorities in a very time sensitive environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn, operate, and teach software programs. Bachelor degree preferred with three years related experience and/or training, with a background in social services ideal. The ability to interview with compassion and tact is vital, with experience in trauma informed interviewing beneficial.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agencies across the HMIS homeless service system.

LOCATION: Pierre, SD

STARTING SALARY: $19.70 - $22.73 per hour. SDHDA offers paid employee health insurance plus eleven paid holidays, generous vacation leave accrual, and medical, dental, vision, and other benefits.

PILOT CAR ESCORT DRIVER

DESCRIPTION: Primarily responsible for driving a company pilot car and assisting with the delivery and installation of Governor’s Houses. The Governor’s House Program is a program funded by SDHDA, in which prison inmates at the Mike Durfee State Prison build low-cost, low-maintenance, energy efficient homes to income qualified individuals and families.

QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidate must possess excellent customer service and trade skills; experience working with a variety of clients; basic knowledge of State DOT Escort vehicle requirements, rules, and regulations; experience with hydraulic jacks, metal beams and other heavy equipment; and the ability to communicate professionally.  Home transport experience a plus.  Successful candidate must have a High School Diploma or GED or a combination of three years of related education and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.  Must have good driving record.

LOCATION: Mike Durfee State Prison, Springfield, SD (travel within the state required)

HVAC Construction Supervisor 

DESCRIPTION: Primarily responsible for training and supervising inmates on HVAC functions of the Governor’s Houses in South Dakota. The Governor’s House Program is a program funded by SDHDA, in which prison inmates at the Mike Durfee State Prison build low-cost, low-maintenance, energy efficient homes to income qualified individuals and families.

QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidate must possess excellent customer service and HVAC installation experience; experience working with a variety of clients; understand basic math functions and calculations; the ability to lift and carry heavy objects; knowledge of building codes and on-the-job safety; and the ability to communicate professionally.  Successful candidate must have a High School Diploma or GED and minimum three years of experience in the HVAC field which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform duties. Being a licensed HVAC technician is not necessary but helpful.  Plumbing experience or license is also helpful.  Candidate would be working under a licensed contractor and may be eligible to gain apprenticeship hours while performing duties. Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and pass an extensive background check for SD Department of Corrections.

CDL Truck Driver

QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidate must possess excellent customer service and trade skills; experience working with a variety of clients; basic knowledge of State and Federal DOT vehicle requirements, rules, and regulations; experience with hydraulic jacks, metal beams and other heavy equipment; and the ability to communicate professionally.  Home transport experience a plus.  Successful candidate must have a High School Diploma or GED or a combination of three years of related education and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.  Must have good driving record and Class A CDL.

LOCATION: Statewide, SD (Must be able to travel to Springfield to retrieve house and deliver within the state)
