  • This city of approximately 13,500 people is located smack dab in the middle of eastern South Dakota. According to City-Data, the median house and condo price in Huron is slightly more than $101,744, with a median gross rent cost of $630. Huron is currently experiencing a steady rise in population after years of stagnation. Its growth is supported by an increase in new business and, more importantly, its affordability.

Dell Rapids

  • Known as the "little city with big attractions" and known for its rich vein of red quartzite that runs about 2,600 feet deep. Dell Rapids is located in Minnehaha County with a population of 3,660. Living in Dell Rapids offers residents a sparse suburban feel and allows most residents to own their homes. According to Niche the Median Household Income is $71,162, and the median home value is around $170,700. Only about a thirty-minute drive from Sioux Falls, families and young professionals still have the opportunity to experience a variety of city activities, while getting the suburban lifestyle. 

Rapid Valley

  • Located in Pennington County, the second-most populous county in South Dakota, Rapid Valley is just outside the feet of the Black Hills and a suburb of Rapid City. According to Livability, the median income in Rapid Valley is $63,969, and the median home value is right around $173,318.
